I stand for Liberty & Common Sense

Liberty, freedom, is the promise of America. It is no coincidence that America, and not Europe where the idea of liberty conceptually originates, is the world’s beacon for liberty and freedom. Liberty is the foundation on which America’s independence is built. Liberty is much more than just the right of free expression, the right to exercise one’s religion, the right to own property, etc., essential as these, indeed, are. It also means the right to be left alone and the avoidance of government dependency. You are not free when you depend on the government for your sustenance.

Consequently, government must remain small and individual autonomy must reign.

But it is with liberty as with the republic, it last as long as you can keep it (Benjamin Franklin). I stand with you to ensure we do.

We seem to live in times where facts do no longer matter and people take positions and form opinions solely based on emotions and feelings. That is completely irrational and we should not give in to it. As a law professor, I told my students that 85% of a lawyer’s work is establishing the facts. If you have the facts wrong or incomplete, regardless how brilliant you are, you are applying the law to the wrong set of reality and, thus, the outcome is wrong (garbage in, garbage out). The next 10% is common sense, and 5% is knowledge. It is not different in politics. Facts matter, and we must resist those who manipulate facts for political gain, because it will lead to bad policy decisions.

My purpose with entering politics is to preserve, defend and protect a free society which allows all of us the preconditions to have a successful and flourishing life.

I am a common sense, rational person that supports policies that benefit the state of North Carolina and all of us living here. I will fight for your freedom to make your own decisions for you and your family and to minimize the encumbrance by government.

The government is there to serve us; and as your senator, I will be there to serve you as my constituents.
